The Game of Life

There are no short cuts in this game of life. We begin on jagged, uneven, and unfair surfaces, moving up after our abilities have been tested. The stairs, worn towards the bottom, do their best to prevent us from destroying their upper halves. Their wear and tear shows the failure of so many people as the stones sit placidly waiting for their next victim. Our incessant drive to get to the top forces us to the edges of society where there is more balance. We must keep a comfortable distance from the mainstream to avoid the sloping middle of the steps where the people band together to fight to the top. We are driven up, up, but why? Make it to the top and you’ll be known worldwide just for making it there. You can write self-help books at the least. But then what?
